The eight-floor Monongahela Building, which overlooks the Monongahela River (three blocks away) was constructed in 1921 by Aaron J. Garlow and three other partners. As a result of the Great Depression, the other partners conveyed their interest to Aaron Garlow who became the sole owner. The Building has been the home to many business and professionals over the years including, on the ground floor, Roger’s Pharmacy for many years and now the Pathfinder. It is situated next to the historic Monongalia Court House on High Street, the main thoroughfare in downtown Morgantown and is located three blocks from the downtown campus of West Virginia University. Aaron Garlow’s great grandfather, Christopher Garlow settled in Monongalia County near Fort Martin in 1772 as one of the earliest settlers. The first settler in Morgantown was Zaquil Morgan whose brother Morgan Morgan was the first settler in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
